HMAS Albatros Fuel Farm

Project Details

HMAS Albatross is the largest operational Naval establishment in Australia with a total area of 928 hectares and is home to the Royal Australian Navy Fleet Air Arm. Airfield and support facilities including the fuel farm are integral in maintaining the operational capability of the base, consisting of 3 x 160,000L horizontal QCI tanks storing AVCAT (F-44).

Eptec was engaged to remediate several distinct issues associated with the fuel farm facility as identified in the recent engineering investigation.

Eptec carried out the tank refurbishment and the Fuel Farm remedial works in a highly intrinsically safe environment (Zone 0 – Hazardous area) with strict safety, environment controls and successfully providing a quality job to the client. Third party independent coating inspectors were employed to satisfy quality requirements. Third party specialised inspectors were engaged to conduct the structural integrity inspection for the QCI tanks.

Eptec’s expertise and professional approach was highly commended by the Client.

Description of Works

Corrosion Protection to QCI Tanks:

    • Full encapsulation; abrasive blasting
    • External and internal painting according to Defence and Australian standards
    • Category 6 inspection

 

Fuel Farm Remedial Works:

      • Demolition of 7 sets of concrete stairs and reconstruction with structural steel according to BCA
      • Remediation/strengthening of bunds and retaining walls
