Project Details
Viva Energy Australia (previously Shell) is the asset owner of the Clyde facility. The facility has been operating since 1928 and was originally a refinery until 2012, and now is a fuel storage terminal.
The Clyde and Parramatta Terminals continue to be an important part of the fuel supply chain in New South Wales as approximately 50% of NSW’s petroleum is supplied from these facilities.
Eptec Services was commissioned by Saunders International Ltd to undertake the protective coating services for the new tanks T78 and T79 at Viva Energy Terminal.
The works were carried out in an live environment with strict safety and environment controls. Eptec employed the use of wet abrasive blasting using EWP on external surfaces and trackblasting for floor surface preparation in order to suppress dust. This avoided the need for scaffolding and full encapsulation around the tank, helping to decrease time and costs for the Client.
Third party independent coating inspectors were employed by the Client for quality control throughout the project. It is with great pride that the Client and Asset Owner commended Eptec for our expertise and professional approach at the completion of the job.
Description of Works

- High pressure fresh water washing of all external and internal surfaces
- Internal surface preparation works involved a full blast of the underside roof, floor and shell perimeter, 300mm turn up and internal piping and manways
- External surface preparation involved wet abrasive blast of all weld margin & minor repairs, mechanical preparation of plate with workshop primer, and coating application
