Larrakeyah Barracks

Project Details

The Other Rank’s Mess – Building 210, at the Larrakeyah Barracks, Darwin, was constructed in the late 1930’s and has survived the Japanese bombing of Darwin as well as Cyclone Tracy. The building is listed as being of heritage importance but
has experienced a high degree of concrete degradation including spalling and cracking. Eptec was awarded the contract to repair the concrete and refurbish the exterior of the building under strict environmental controls due to the heritage nature of the worksite.
Work undertaken included the breakout and replacement of deteriorated concrete, demolition and reconstruction of concrete structures that were deteriorated beyond repair and the repainting of the building exterior. Additional works undertaken included asbestos removal, termite treatment, roof and ceiling repairs, waterproofing to concrete surfaces, drainage upgrades and timber restoration.
The project was delivered successfully on time to the satisfaction of the client.

Description of Works

  • Removal and repair of 500m2 of spalled concrete and delaminated render
  • Demolition and reconstruction of severely deteriorated concrete structures including walls, stairways and balconies
  • Waterproofing of slabs
  • Roof and fascia repairs, installation of eave supports and drainage upgrades
