Spit Bridge

Project Details

The Spit Bridge is a seven span 227m long bridge conveying the northbound and southbound carriageways of Spit Bridge Road over Middle Harbour. The existing structure is a steel girder bridge with composite concrete deck and was constructed during early 1950’s. The purpose of this project was to carry out repairs to the fascia beam where the top flange was badly corroded under the footpath on each side of the bridge. The works were undertaken on the entire length of the bridge, except on the bascule span.

The scope of work involved the design and installation of the containment structure to meet all environmental measures of hazardous waste capture, followed by concrete repairs to the pedestrian footpath, and the installation of steelwork to provide support to fascia flanges. There was consistent traffic management to provide a safe passage for all vehicles, pedestrians and workers.
Due to close proximity of local receptors, noise mitigation measures were successfully implemented which ensured local restaurants continued to operate during the works.

Eptec successfully completed Stage 1, the Manly side (East & Western sides) within the prescribed time frame. This was done in a highly sensitive area with strict safety, environmental and community relation control, whilst working alongside the client including liaising with the Maritime Services.
